OpenClaw supports WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, iMessage, and Mattermost out of the box. Each channel has its own API requirements, registration flows, and credential formats. WhatsApp requires Meta Business verification. iMessage requires an Apple Push Notification Service certificate on a macOS host. Discord requires an OAuth2 app with the right permission scopes. None of these are obvious, and one misconfiguration silently breaks everything.

Do I need a business WhatsApp account?
For the WhatsApp Business API, yes — you need a phone number registered through Meta's Business Manager. This can be a new number or an existing one that you port. We guide you through the registration and verification process as part of the setup.
Can I add more channels later?
Yes. Each channel is an independent connection in OpenClaw. You can add WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, iMessage, or Mattermost at any time as a separate channel setup service. Existing channels are not affected.
Which channel should I start with?
For personal use, Telegram is the fastest to set up — no Meta approval process, instant bot creation, and reliable delivery. For business use, WhatsApp is usually the highest-value channel because it reaches clients where they already communicate.
